Find Your Three Words: A Simple Yoga Mindset Practice for More Clarity and Alignment
Ryan Spence | DEC 6, 2025
We all have those days when everything feels steady.
When your breath flows easily, your energy feels grounded, and you move through life as your truest self.
That feeling isn’t random. It’s alignment.
And there’s a simple mindset practice that can help you access it more often, both on and off the mat:
Choose three words that describe how you want to feel when you’re aligned.
This is a tool I use with coaching clients and in my own yoga practice. Your three words become a kind of inner compass, guiding how you move, breathe, make decisions and show up in the world.
Why This Works
When life gets busy, it’s easy to slip into autopilot.
Your three words bring you back to intention.
They act as gentle cues for:
• presence
• emotional clarity
• mindful action
• the qualities you want to embody
It’s a quick way of reconnecting to yourself without needing an hour of quiet or a perfect practice space.
Examples to Get You Thinking
Here are a few words students often find helpful:
Joyful
Encourages play, softness and ease — especially when perfection tries to take over.
Resilient
A reminder of inner strength when you’re navigating challenge (on the mat or otherwise).
Focused
A cue to return to your breath and intention when the mind starts to drift.
Your words don’t need to be impressive.
They just need to feel true.
Try This Today
Ask yourself:
• When I feel most grounded, how do I feel?
• How do I move?
• How do I show up?
Choose three words, then pick one to guide your week.
Place it at the top of your mat, repeat it in your mind, or simply hold it in your awareness as you move.
Small practices create big shifts.
